SUKMA XXI Sarawak 2024




 
On March 16, 2023, Sarawak was chosen to host the 21st Malaysian Games (SUKMA) in 2024 after being jointly agreed upon by the Malaysian Sports Supreme Committee.

This is the third edition of Sarawak hosting SUKMA after 1990 and 2016.

SUKMA XXI Sarawak 2024 will be held from August 17 to 24, with 488 events: 236 male events, 217 female events, and 35 mixed/open events across 37 sports.

The 37 sports include 28 compulsory sports such as aquatics, weightlifting, badminton, cycling, gymnastics, golf, fencing, archery, shooting, athletics, sailing, hockey, table tennis, taekwondo, karate, sepak takraw, tenpin bowling, wushu, soccer, netball, volleyball, and tennis. 

The 9 additional sports are boxing, muay thai, petanque, e-sports, softball, chess, kabbadi, silambam, and cricket.

SUKMA XXI Sarawak 2024 will involve 12,619 participants: 9,927 athletes and 2,692 officials. 

The athletes include 5,666 males and 4,261 females, while the officials include 1,845 males and 847 females.


 


Nine divisions will host 37 sports: Kuching (25), Samarahan (2), Serian (1), Sri Aman (1), Betong (1), Sibu (3), Mukah (3), Bintulu (3), and Miri (6), which aims to ensure that the excitement can be felt by the people throughout Sarawak and at the same time attract the interest of local youth to actively participate in sports.

Five main Sports Villages have been identified for housing athletes from 15 contingents: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) Kota Samarahan, Desa Sanyan in Sibu, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Mukah Campus, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Bintulu, and the National Youth Skills Institute (IKBN) Miri.

SUKMA XXI Sarawak 2024 is the largest SUKMA Festival ever organized since its inception in 1986.
